I'd like to address this to all the MLM businessmen and businesswomen or commonly called networkers out there about things that I find to have a problem with. From one business-minded person to another, I don't really mind what you do and what you are selling (well, mostly). In fact, if you invite me to one of your seminars I wouldn't mind going as long as it doesn't conflict my schedule. If I'm satisfied, I might join your company (that's the hard part right there for you hehe). I'd just like to address some things that bothers me.
1. Skeptical Products
I know that in every company (networking or not) you have to have confidence and belief in the products you sell like its the greatest thing in the world regardless of how crappy it is or not, because without this confidence and belief, you won't really make it that far in the business world. My focus is on how crappy it is. I remember one networking company which sells magnetic bracelets that can help in your health. My only problem is that magnetic or copper bracelets are not scientifically proven to have any good effects on the body. Another networking company sells the product of this famous doctor. My problem is with the doctor who practices non-doctor stuff (by that, I mean, not proven to be helpful for someone's health). Statistically, 55% of doctors in the US think he is not a real doctor because of his practices. That's one reason why I don't join your networking company. I just don't have confidence selling products when I know what's wrong with it. And I'm not going to put any links here about what I'm talking about. Search it in google. Practice your undiscovered research skill.
2. Cars (or any other material things) as a Sign of Being "Rich"
While you invite me and tell me this member here has a car is now rich and then that member enters his car and then speeds up showing off how fast his car is (I hope you get ticketed for doing that), I am never impressed. You can have a car but you're drowning in debt. Are you "rich"? You can have a car but you're having a hard time paying the loan. Are you "rich"? Plus, adding more vehicles to a traffic jammed city for your self-convenience is not really helpful nowadays. Please don't focus on the rich materialistic lifestyle in making people join your company. It just makes people materialistic. It really is dissuading.
3. Calling it "Financial Education"
I'm all for financial education. But If I go to your seminar and all I know about are your products and how to earn in your business, then I would ask "Where's the part about preparing for the worst?" "Where's the part about budgeting?" Where's the part about saving for your long-term goal?" (a thing most networking companies omit) "Where's the part about debt management?" "Where's the part about money management?". It's your business if you're going to define it whatever you want, I just don't think it's right to call it "financial education".
4. Misleading Invitation Tactics (e.g. Job hiring posters when it's not, Kidnapping tactics, Supposedly just going out for "movies, dinner, date, etc.")
One of my former students informed me that she was called for an interview for a part-time job. You probably guess that it's not and all she got was about the networking business of this company, instead. These tactics can reflect what your business will be. It will be full of misleading tactics that it tarnishes the very relationship you have with anyone. It's built in lies, and if it is built in lies, the foundation will crumble faster than sand castles on the beach. Let's keep it honest as possible, shall we?
5. Question
One question only: What happens when the recruiting stops?
This is a genuine question for all networkers out there and I want you to answer it as honest as you can. You can share your idea on the comment section. I'm open-minded. ;)
